MRACEK, Jaroslav
Distinguished Professor of Musicology at San Deigo State University for 26 years died April 27th at age 70 in San Diego after a lengthy illness. The memorial service and interment took place at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego. Dr. Mracek grew up in Toronto graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree from University of Toronto. On a Canada Council Fellowship, he earned a Ph.D. in musicology from Indiana University. Dr. Mracek organized several international music events in San Diego, including a Festival of Canadian Music. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Virginia (Chambers) originally from Wallaceburg, Ontario; sons Edward and Christopher of San Diego, CA; mother, Agnes Mracek of Toronto; a sister and brother-in-law, Drs. Olga and Peter Mitchell of Summit, NJ; and nieces Janice O'Shea and Susan Mitchell of NJ.
