POPE, Joseph (b. July 27th, 1921 at Chaumont-Gistoux, Belgium), Lieutenant, Royal Canadian Artillery, World War II
Peacefully at Toronto on Saturday, December 18th, 2010. Beloved son of the late Lt-General Maurice Pope and Comtesse Simonne du Monceau de Bergendal. Beloved husband of Claudine de Lannoy. Beloved brother of Thomas Pope. Beloved brother-in- law to Roger, Chantal, Stéphane and Henri de Lannoy. Proud father of Sybil, Francis, Allan, Loïs Alex, Nora, Julian and Michael. Beloved father- in-law of Michina, Christine, Aine, Greg, Meagan and Marie. Proud grandfather of Zoë and her betrothed Alex, Alexander, Michael, Nicholas, Matthew, Harry, Zachary, Gabriella, Siena, Caleigh, Maximilian, Liam, Phoebe, Dominique, Emma, Charles, Jane and Andrew. He greatly enjoyed a long career in finance, as well as his on-going studies of mediaeval paleography. He took great pride in the honorary Doctorate bestowed on him by the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies. Vigil prayers will be held at 61 Cluny Drive on Wednesday, December 22nd at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Cathedral (65 Bond Street) on Thursday, December 23rd at 10:30 a.m. The burial will follow immediately at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 305 Erskine Ave. Flowers gratefully declined. In celebration of Joe's life, his family will receive at 61 Cluny Drive on January 6th, 2011 at 6 p.m.
