Maxine GOLDBERG Obituary

MAXINE ANNE GOLDBERG(nee Raphael) December 18, 1936 - January 5, 2021 Maxine passed way at the age of 84 of pancreatic cancer, which was discovered on Sept. 2, 2020. She is survived by George, her husband of 63 years. She will be dearly missed. Maxine was a teacher-librarian at Brown School for many years. She was a Humanist and a vegetarian. Maxine loved books, and was devoted to the arts: theatre, film, operetta and especially ballet. A one-time potter, she continued to make paper crafts. Maxine supported the National Ballet of Canada, the National Ballet School, Ballet Jorgen and Fall for Dance North. Other interests were the William Morris Society and Women's Art Institute. Our sincere thanks to Juliet Thompson for her dedication and support.

Maxine was the most kindest sweetest person I’ve ever met. Her heart was filled with the purest form of gold. She never missed a birthday or Christmas holiday. Maxine you will deeply be missed. May your beautiful soul rest in perfect peace ❤

Mrs. Goldberg was my school librarian in the 80s when I was a student at Brown. Being in her library always felt special. She also ran an art club I attended and she was one of the first people to really encourage me in my artmaking. She took us to the Ballet several times, including to see Coppelia which has remained my favourite. I went on to pursue a BFA in Visual Arts and later became a Teacher-Librarian in the TDSB! Clearly she had a big influence on my life.

I ran into her in my thirties, near Rosehill Reservoir, on a walk. I recognized her immediately and introduced myself. We had a really lovely chat.

Thank you Mrs. Goldberg for being a passionate and caring educator!

As a potter and card maker myself, Maxine and I shared many wonderful conversations about these art forms, ballet and so many other life topics. I'll miss having tea parties with Maxine.

I remember Maxine has a friendly and dedicated teacher librarian at Brown School. I have found memories of my students gathering on the carpet area and listening to her reading all kind of wonderful stories. My condolences to her family and friends.

Maxine was the teacher librarian at Brown when I started teaching there in 1988. She was part of a core group that had been on the staff for a long time but she was one of the first to make me feel welcome. She was kind, helpful and dedicated to her work and I will always picture her laughing. May she rest in peace.

Maxine was the teacher/ librarian at Brown School in 1969 when I started teaching at the school in my first year of teaching. Maxine was so friendly and helpful to a young new teacher that year. She took me under her wing and being the knowledgeable and experienced teacher/librarian she was, guided me in so many ways. I remember her inviting my class to visit her friend Ellen at her home for a special Norwegian Christmas celebration, complete with candle lights on the tree and Norwegian cookies for the children. Years later, Ellen was our neighbour. I also remember her kindness in having a group of us to her apartment for afternoon tea. I have never forgotten her.
My condolences to her husband George.
