Nancy FAIRLEY Obituary

FAIRLEY, Nancy Wynn (nee Hodgson)
On Sunday, February 3rd, 2002, Nancy Wynn Fairley BA (Hons), B Ed. died peacefully at the Grey Nuns Hospital, Edmonton, at the age of 47 following a illness that she bore with characteristic resolve, dignity, grace and good humour. She leaves to mourn her loss loving husband Grant Fairley, her devoted parents Alan and Audrey Hodgson, step children Vivian (Thom) Douglas-Fairley, Janice, David (Alice) and Douglas (Sheena); brothers Brian (Bonny), Ian (Lynne), James (Jane) and John (Janine); and sister Sheelagh (Dr. Robert) Anderson. Twentytwo nieces, nephews and step-grand children also share in the sorrow of her death. She was a serving board member of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and a past president of the Alberta Baroque Music Society. Nancy's life was inspired by the love of her husband Grant, her family and by her passion for the arts but especially music and English literature. Her gifts as a teacher and as a mentor to family, friends and students in instilling a deeper understanding of music and the finely crafted written word as instruments of God's grace are legacies for which thanks are given for a life so short, but one that will love on with those so endowed by her with a richer appreciation of the broader canvas of human existence. In lieu of flowers, donations and bequests may be made to the Edmonton Community Foundation, Nancy W. Fairley Scholarship Fund, 710 10117 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, T5J 1W8, telephone (780) 426-0015. A funeral service in thanksgiving for the life of Nancy Fairley will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7th at Christ Church, 12116-102 Avenue, Edmonton. The Venerable John Privett will officiate and a private interment will take place in the Edmonton Cemetery. Foster & McGarvey Limited Funeral Directors and Licensed Crematorium (780)428-6666.
