Patricia FENNER Obituary

PATRICIA KATHLEEN FENNER (née Grace) Died Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Montfort LTC in Ottawa, Canada. Patricia was born in Ottawa, on March 4, 1939, to Dorothy Kathleen Grace (George) and John Alphonsus Grace, where she was raised before entering Brescia College at Western University. After graduation, she began a teaching career that was to span decades. She was married in 1967 to Robert Hepburn Fenner; they went on to live in Malta before settling in Toronto, where they raised their three daughters. When Patricia's long and influential career as an educator and later librarian came to an end, she and Bob settled in Cobourg, Ontario for their retirement, where she was tirelessly involved with the NHH Hospital Auxiliary and the local library board. Patricia was a leader, a fierce intellect, a quick and merciless wit, an imposing and potent teacher. She mastered most things she touched--an incredible cook and consummate hostess, she sewed her own clothes, taught with passion, wrote and spoke beautifully and carried herself with style. In truth, no obituary could do her justice unless she wrote it herself. Patricia was predeceased by her husband, Bob, in 2012. She will be missed by her daughters, Louisa Fenner (David Yazbeck), Kate Fenner (Eric Clough), and Susannah Shaw (Graham Shaw), her stepson, John Fenner (Joan Fenner), and a pack of grandchildren whom she dearly loved: Luke Sawa, Ethan and Elliott Shaw, Lucien Clough, and Ian, Eleanor and Colin Fenner. We are unable to gather and honour her at this time, but donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada, and/or her beloved Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg.

RIP Patricia--Many memories from Deep River days

Patricia (and Bob) were wonderful neighbours and great friends to our entire family.

Whenever I was home from university I always looked forward to heading across the street to catch up, share stories and usually more than a few drinks.

Patricia was so warm and thoughtful, and her sharp wit always left a smile on my face.

I'm so grateful to have grown up with neighbours as wonderful as them, and they are missed--but their advice, stories and laughter are memories I will always treasure.
