Ronald ROBERTS Obituary



ROBERTS, Ronald - B.B.A. (Honors); L.L.B. (J.D.)
Peacefully and with great courage, in his 88th year Ron hung up his hockey skates for the last time on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at his home in Frisco, Texas with his beloved wife Jane by his side.
  Ron was born in Campbellville, Ontario on June 1st, 1925 to Charles and Rachel (Sam) Roberts.
  Ron is also survived by his sister Ruth Roberts of Burlington. Predeceased by his brother Maurice (Joe) and his sister Kaireen (Kay) Billings.
  Ron went to SS #10 Nassagaweya P.S., Milton District High School and graduated from the University of Michigan with an Honors Degree in Business Administration and then returned later to obtain his Law degree. He played Junior hockey in Milton during his high school years and was selected by the Detroit Red Wings to join their Jr. 'A' farm team, the Galt Red Wings. He also played abroad in Scotland for the Dundee Tigers and during his years in law school played for the University of Michigan Wolverines.Ron served his country in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943 - 1945.Ron enjoyed a very successful and distinguished career in the Insurance/Finance industry for 25 years in Illinois and Texas. Chaired numerous industry committees during this time and was elected to serve as President and Chairman of the Board, Executive & Legislative Committees, of a National Trade Assoc. representing 150 member insurance companies. Ron was a member of the Illinois & Chicago Bar Assoc.; American, Texas & Dallas Bar Assoc. and College of the State Bar of Texas.Following his impressive insurance/finance career, Ron turned his interest to the game of hockey. He served as the Executive Director and General Counsel of the World Hockey Players Association and negotiated contracts for over 100 Professional hockey players & coaches in the NHL & WHA. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of Hockey Canada. Represented WHA players in negotiations for the USSR-CANADA series played in Russia & Canada.
  Cremation has taken place. Burial will follow at a later date in Michigan and Campbellville, Ontario.
