Ross PERIGOE Obituary

PERIGOE, Ross
Ross Perigoe lived an extraordinary life. Born Sept. 30, 1949, he thrived in invigorating communities - loving family, close friends, later among hundreds of budding journalists (his students) who knew him as 'Coach.' He grew up in Agincourt, Ont., studied radio and TV arts at Ryerson, got his master's degree in communications at Syracuse University, and earned his PhD in applied communication at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, in Australia. As a broadcaster, journalist, family man or mentor, Ross loved life. He also loved people because they became the source of his study, companions in his career, and the future of his profession. Earning a professorship at Concordia University in Montreal in 1985, Ross thrived in the pursuit of excellence in writing, a search for truth, and the chance to instill that passion in a generation of student journalists. Even when stricken by a brain tumour nearly two years ago, he faced adversity the same way he faced every challenge - head on. Despite every effort on his own and in the care of his wife Christina and their sons - Evan and Clarke - Ross died on Jan. 4, 2012. Concordia has chosen to remember his life's work in broadcast-journalism by establishing a scholarship (make donation by cheque to 'Concordia University' with 'Ross Perigoe Memorial Scholarship' in the memo line; send to: Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations, 1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd West, FB 520, Montreal, QC H3G 1M8). Ross Perigoe's family and friends will gather - at 11 a.m., this Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Eglinton St. George's United Church, 35 Lytton Blvd, Toronto - to celebrate his life.
