SARAH MARGARET KENNY July 13, 1960 - January 22, 2021 With deep sadness, we announce the death of Sarah Margaret Kenny, on January 22, 2021. Deeply loved and cherished by her devoted husband, Éric Therrien, mourned by her daughters Mélinda and Sophie-Danielle (Derek), granddaughter Sarah, sisters Maureen (Jim), and Alison (Mark), brother Bill (Mary) and stepchildren Emanuelle (Olivier), Charles (Amélie), Émeraude and Rébecca. Adored by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Bob and Muriel, and sister Carolyn. Sarah led a life of adventure, joy and compassion. In her early career, she taught, coached and mentored youth in Ontario and Northern Quebec and later lent her considerable talents to her role as Principal Director of Development at Concordia University, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science. Whatever Sarah undertook in life, it was approached with determination and positivity. When she was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour in the spring of 2018, she tackled surgery and treatments as a job to be done well and was unfailing in keeping spirits up - her own - and everyone else's. Having spent her career in fundraising for a worthwhile cause, she understood the importance of encouraging others to give. She established The Sarah Kenny Research Fund at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) when she was told in July of last year that she had only months to live. She was eager to contribute to research that might someday finally turn the tide against Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). So many have already contributed to this fund, and reading the cards that arrived in the mail each day encouraged Sarah and made her proud. When Sarah met Eric in 2007, she saw in him a man who shared her life values of honesty, empathy, strong work ethic and deep love of family. Together they skated, rollerbladed, swam, canoed, skied, and hiked through many adventures. (Early in their courtship, Eric was reported as saying "Sarah! You are not a relaxing kind of girlfriend!" He quickly adapted.) They traveled widely, watched quiet sunsets over Lac Libby and Lake Huron, and took time to visit with family in Quebec and Ontario. Sarah loved her daughters fiercely and raised them with warmth and laughter. Mélinda and Sophie were supported and encouraged in all their endeavors, and have grown to be strong, smart and loving women. We are so proud of them. The family is heartbroken right now and grieving a huge loss, but we know that Sarah will be in our hearts and minds forever. She would have been so touched to read the emails and tributes friends and colleagues have been posting these past days. She would have smiled that beautiful smile and in leaving, would have reminded us to care for each other and live in love. Sarah loved flowers. However, we know that it would be her preference if, instead, you considered a donation to The Sarah Kenny Research Fund for Glioblastoma by using the following link
