Val ROSS Obituary



OCTOBER 17, 1950FEBRUARY 17, 2008 VAL ROSS Val passed away with great courage and grace, in her 58th year, from complications from brain cancer, while being treated at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. Beloved wife of Morton Ritts, adored mother of Max, Maddie and Zoe Ritts; darling daughter of Erma and the late Jack Ross, and loving sister of Philip Ross. She brightened the lives of all who knew her. Val was an award winning journalist and author who wrote for The Globe and Mail, Maclean's, Chatelaine and Toronto Life magazines, among other publications. She is the author of two children's books, The Road to There and You Can't Read This, as well as the forthcoming oral history, Robertson Davies: A Portrait in Mosaic. Donations in her memory may be made to one of Val's favourite charities: Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International and PEN Canada. A public memorial service for Val will be held at Massey College, University of Toronto, 4 Devonshire Place, on Saturday February 23, at 3 p.m.
