Young Yim Obituary

YOUNG EUN YIM When people say someone can light up a room, it is hard not to think of Mrs. Yim. Young Yim (née Young-Eun Chin), as she was also known to her many, many friends, was charm and elegance personified. Although such descriptions of someone may sound over the top, there is simply no other way to describe her and there is no description adequate to do her justice. Young didn't seek admiration (although she was indeed admired), but, rather, went out of her way to make people feel valued and appreciated. All who were fortunate to be in her way came to know the warmth that Young brought to her little corner of the world. And what a lovely world it was to be in her midst. Born on February 27, 1937, in Gaesong, Korea, she grew up in a family of diplomats and artists then went on to study English at Ewha Woman's University in Seoul, Korea. In 1969, she immigrated to Mississauga, Canada, with her late husband, Dr. Don Yim, and her elder son, Walter. Although the Korean Conflict (1950-53) devastated her once proud, noble family, Young maintained her station in life as a lady befitting her noble birth, always elegant, proper and disciplined, someone who never once let herself slip. Never an unkind word or an inappropriate comment. Young loved to cook and wowed her guests (those lucky enough to be invited) with her formidable culinary skills. Her dishes were delicate and flavorful (an uncommon twist on the bold traditional flavours of the Korean palette) and plated sumptuously on beautiful platters that she assiduously collected and proudly displayed. Young would replicate and improve on recipes that she tasted once on her travels, to her family's delight. Young would study and memorize a lifetime of recipes. Even in the past few years while her memory started to fail her, to her frustration and dismay, she retained every ingredient of every dish she had so lovingly prepared in the years past. Young saw life as an opportunity to bring about beauty and comfort to others. That she did - more than she could imagine. Young's beaming smile would welcome her guests into her home and those in her community (at church, her golf club and her Mississauga neighborhood) into her warm embrace. With Don, Young spent a lifetime creating an inspired life with close friends and a loving family. To Don, Young was a loving and devoted wife for 54 years, until he predeceased her, only two years prior. In the early hours of March 11, 2022, Young passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Young's charming wit and 'sing-songy' voice will linger in the hearts and memories of all who knew her. She is survived by her two loving sons, Walter and Roger, as wells as her two loving grandchildren, Nicholas and Celeste. Visitation at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge St. was held on Monday, March 14th, from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral visitation Tuesday, March 15th, at 9 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 296 Judson St. in Etobicoke.
