Rosemary WEINTZ Obituary

ROSEMARY ROSS WEINTZ 1929 - 2021 Rosemary Ross Weintz (Ro), artsy, funny, sometimes flighty, but always kind, was born in Ottawa in 1929 to Mary and David MacKeen and died peacefully February 5, 2021 at home in Riverside, Connecticut. Like the herb, Rosemary was fragrant and nurturing. From her childhood at "Shadowbrook" in Ottawa to her last days at "Harbor Lights" in Connecticut, she lived a charmed life. She loved a lot, including her two husbands, children and grandchildren. She was quiet but loved to laugh, often at herself. Ro studied art in Toronto, Banff, Boston, and New York and she produced large, vibrant canvases that proudly hang in many homes. In her 60's she went back to school to study interior design, and was awarded the top design prize from the New York Institute for Art and Design. Her first love was John Ross from Quebec City who she laughed with for 53 years. They lived in countless homes in Toronto and Oakville, and their beloved "Bonne Entente" in Hockley Valley Ontario. After John's death in 2007, she was wooed by long ago suiter and very recent widower, Fred Weintz and she remarried 13 months later at age 79. Always up for an adventure, she moved to Fred's Connecticut home and became a U.S. citizen. She loved Fred and his extended family, and the chaos and fun of it all. In addition to her family and friends, she loved decorating, gardening, taking baths, cashmere sweaters, chunky necklaces, movies, having her hair done, breakfast, martinis and shopping. She was a combination of traditional and sassy, liberal-minded for her time, and accepting of everyone. Ro is predeceased by our father John, and brothers Tony and David MacKeen. She leaves her husband Fred Weintz and his children, her sister Marjorie MacKeen, sister-in-law Jane Burnes (David), children John Ross (Susan), Wendy Eidson (Walt), Alison Williams (Dave), Shelagh Ross (Bob), grandchildren Jonathan (Erin), Alexander (Sam), Graham, Hanna, Andrew (Mackenzie), Brychan, Ross, great-granddaughter Nomi, and little dog Pippa. She was a wonderful mother and the fact that we all love and visit each other regularly speaks volumes about our parents. A huge THANK YOU to her outstanding caregivers over the years, in particular Maria, Rosemar, Martha, Rosie, and Nubia who were with her at the end, and Dr. Jeff Weinberger. Extra special thanks go to lead care-provider Alison Caputo for ensuring Ro and Fred were safe, thrived, were expertly cared for, and very content together for many years. We are eternally grateful. A family celebration will be held when we can all get together. Donations to the Canadian Congenital Heart Alliance or Humane Society in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.

Bob, Brian and I were very sorry to hear about your mother. We only saw her a few times, but she always seemed so vibrant and happy. I remember how privileged I felt when she showed us her art room (in a barn???). It was so beautiful. Our sympathies to you all.

My deepest condolences. I remember Aunt Ro from when we were very young. She was "that beautiful woman with the white hair", she was so elegant! Barbara has always shared stories of her relationships with our cousins so I have never felt too far away. I send my love to you all and hope your memories keep you warm and that you may always feel her love. Heather
