Gordon CRUICKSHANK Obituary

GORDON RICHARD CRUICKSHANK May 4, 1965 - August 9, 2021 It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Gordy, on Monday, August 9, 2021, at the age of 56. Beloved son of George (Maureen) and the late Elisse. Loving brother of Steve (Vicki). Devoted uncle to Jamie, Shawna, and Erin. Much loved by his Aunt Judy Edwards (Ron), and cousins Colleen and Shannon. Gordy was predeceased by his grandparents Ben and Dorothy Cruickshank. Gordy was born in Toronto in 1965 and the family moved to Mississauga three years later. A terrific athlete, Gordy played baseball and hockey throughout his childhood years, participating on many championship teams. After two very successful years with the St. Michael's Buzzers Junior Hockey Club, Gordy headed to the United States, attending Providence College on a Division I NCAA full hockey scholarship. During his time at Providence, Gordy was blessed to have competed for a national championship in his freshman season. He also achieved several individual awards, including NCAA Hockey East All-American, the (Lou) Lamoriello Award (presented to the most valuable Providence College hockey player), and was named to The Hockey News All-Time Hockey East team. After Providence, Gordy signed with the Boston Bruins and played several years of minor pro hockey before returning to Canada to pursue a career in sales. A lover of the comic genre, Gordy was a big fan of Superman, Batman, and Marvel comics. Gordy was a kind, caring, gentle soul, and is dearly loved; he will be greatly missed. The visitation will take place at the Turner & Porter 'Neweduk' Chapel, 1981 Dundas Street West, Mississauga, on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, by family invitation only. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Mississauga. If you wish to attend please contact the family. For those who wish, donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association (http://act.alz.org/donate), as per Gordy's wish; or the Heart & Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca).
