Gerald WAREHAM Obituary

GERALD J. WAREHAM Gerald J. Wareham of Notre-Dame-de-Grace, Quebec, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2021 at 93 years of age. Leaving an indelible imprint on so many and lovingly remembered by his dear life companion of forty years, Stella Lacoursiere; younger brother John J. Wareham (Lise); nieces, Patricia (Pete), Brenda (Jacques) and Donna (Mark); great-grand nieces and nephews; and his many friends. Gerald (Gerry) was born in Montreal on June 23, 1928; the second of three sons to Margaret (Clooney) and Charles P. Wareham. He grew up with his two brothers John and Charles (predeceased in 2009) and proudly lived in Notre-Dame-de Grace his entire life. Known for his steadfast faith, love of family, keen mind, love of jogging, gentle wit, and heartfelt laugh Gerry will be deeply missed by all who had the true privilege of knowing him. Gerry graduated from Sir George Williams (Concordia) University in 1951 and was welcomed into the Order of Chartered Accountants in 1954, having gracefully attracted the attention of others by ranking first in Canada in the national CA examination. Upon graduation, he joined Pricewaterhouse Coopers where he briefly expanded his horizons in their London England office, was made a Partner in 1963, followed by becoming a Fellow CA in 1984. After having enjoyed a very accomplished career spanning more than 38 years with PwC culminating as the Managing Partner of the Montreal Office and Eastern Canada region for 6 years, he decided to retire in 1989. Having an insatiable love to learn and connect with people, Gerry embarked on a second career as a dedicated and active business community member; serving on numerous boards for the Order of Chartered Accounts of Quebec, joining the Advisory board of Concordia's Centre for Management Studies, teaching Management Accounting at McGill's Desautels Faculty of Management, and acting as Trustee of a large pharmaceutical pension fund. He also was the Chairman and a Director of Robco Inc. for numerous years. Throughout his career with PWC and in all of his endeavours, Gerry was known as a keen creative mind, a loyal friend and mentor to countless former colleagues and peers; supporting many to carry on to great achievements. Being acutely aware of the privilege that his success afforded him and as a devout Catholic, giving back to the community was an important part of Gerry's life. He served on numerous boards as a Director and generous but very private benefactor of charities and hospitals, including St. Mary's Hospital, the Douglas Hospital Research Centre, The Canadian Council of Christians and Jews among several others. The family would like to thank so many but would be remiss not to specifically mention Dr. Christina Tong, Dr. J.P. Pelletier, Mr. George Tsonis, Physiotherapist, and those at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Those that are able to join us to celebrate Gerry's life, are welcome to the funeral visitation which will be held at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White, 5610 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal, Quebec H4A 1W5 on Sunday, October 24th, 2 to 5 p.m., 7 to 9 p.m. (Pandemic capacity restriction of 50 attendees at the same time). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 25th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Monica's Parish, 6405, rue de Terrebonne, Montreal, Quebec H4B 1A8 (Pandemic capacity restriction of 120 attendees). In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Gerry's most cherished charitable causes: Queen Elizabeth Health Complex Foundation, Douglas Hospital Foundation and Concordia University, School of Commerce.
