Born: June 17, 1918; in Erie, PA

Died: August 6, 2019; in Joliet, IL

Age 101, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2019 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home in Joliet, Her home for the past fourteen years. Dorothy was born in Erie Pennsylvania on June 17, 1918, to Fred and Anna Schnelzer. During WWII she worked at the General Electric Plant in Erie with Wartime Production, while waiting for her beloved Jack Anderson, to return from the war.

Upon Jacks return, in May of 1945 they married and eventually returned to Lockport where Jack was originally from. She was very active at St. Josephs Church and School, involved with several different groups, and a long-time volunteer for the St. Joes BINGO program.

She was a faithful parishioner at St. Joseph Church until moving to OLA in 2005.

Preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, her parents, and her brother, William Schnelzer.

Survived by her two sons, John (Sharon) Anderson and Paul Anderson; one daughter Patricia (Joe) Viano; eight grandchildren, John (Lora) Anderson, Kevin (Lisa) Anderson, Julie (Scott) Lake, Carla (Andy) Schaefer, Amy (Bo) Brown, Brian Viano, William (Maria) Anderson and Michael Anderson; eleven great grandchildren, Jack, Ethan, Dillon, Bella, Aiden, Josh, Zack, Kirsten, Jenna, Ava and Adler; and a special friend, George Oduori.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Our Lady of Angels, Joliet Area Community Hospice and Dr. Waszak for their exceptional care and attention Dorothy received. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice, Our Lady of Angels or St. Joseph School Lockport would be greatly appreciated.

Visitation will be held Thursday August 8, 2019 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home 1201 Wyoming Ave. Joliet IL.,60435 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Additional visiting hours will be held Friday August 9, 2019 at St. Joseph Church 410 S. Jefferson St., Lockport, IL.,60441 from 10:00 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment following Mass at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Joliet.
