Donald Ellis Nicholson, 86, of Windsor, beloved husband of the late Iva B. Nicholson passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born September 15, 1931 in Melrose, MA son of the late Albert and Mildred (Lane) Nicholson. He grew up in Stamford before living in Norwalk for over 50 years and then in Windsor for the last nine years. He graduated from Stamford High School and earned his associate degree from CT Engineering Institute. He proudly served with the US Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Burndy Corp. after many years of employment. While living in Norwalk he was a pillar of the United Congregational Church and was currently member of the First Church in Windsor. Donald enjoyed working on home projects and helping his friends. He taught his family how to ski and he loved playing pinochle! He was an avid race-car fan, but most of all he was a devoted family man, loving every moment he had with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter, Leigh Kuhn and her husband, Peter of Windsor; a sister, Margaret Kaswer of Brookfield; two sisters-in-law, Helen Nicholson of Rock Hill, SC, and Ann (Helena) Starkey of Norwalk; five grandchildren, Stephen Quinlan and wife Erin, Colleen Menzies and husband Brian, Jennifer McCann and husband Travis, Christopher Kuhn, Brittany Hallenbeck and husband Kyle; eight great grandchildren, Mason, Ellen, Jackson, Cameron, Madison, Hadley, Maxine, and Brayden and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Donald E. Nicholson, Jr., a brother, Albert Nicholson; and brothers-in-law, William Kaswer, and Harold Starkey. Memorial services will be held Monday, June 18, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at First Church in Windsor, 107 Palisado Ave., Windsor followed by military honors.
