Roger Guimond Obituary
Singer/Songwriter and Producer
Singer-Songwriter and Music Producer Roger Louis Guimond passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 after a long and heroic battle with Thyroid Cancer. He has moved on to the next leg of his journey towards Heaven.
Born in Norwalk on September 4, 1968, he is survived by loving parents Virginia Marie (Ruggieri) & J. Louis Guimond of Norwalk, devoted fiancée Kerry K. Robinson of New York City and New Haven, two brothers, Gregory Guimond and his wife Mary Elizabeth Murray of Chatham, New Jersey, Robbie Guimond and his wife Taryn Bolotin of Westport, nephews, Michael Guimond, Brian Guimond, and nieces, Cara Grace Guimond, Amelia Rose Guimond, Gweneth Guimond, and dear and loyal friend, Billy Bateman of Norwalk. He loved and was deeply loved by his family and friends.
Roger followed his passion to the recording studio and live performance. He was the lead singer for the regionally and internationally known bands Flowerland, Stylie, Lord Have Mercy, Larva and Belly Dancer.
He played in notable clubs CBGB's, China Club, Toads Place & Mohegan Sun. Roger was a founding member of Bindu Kirtan Band at the Westport YMCA. His recently released CD, Jolly Roger's Proclamation MMXIII, received acclaim from The New York Daily News Celebrity Confidential after his New York Record Release Party in New York City on December 12, 2013.

Roger was an avid hiker, camper and loved nature and being in the woods. He completed a series of 100 hikes per year throughout the northeast during his 5 year battle with cancer.
He chose to participate in 3 Clinical Cancer Trials at Yale so that future lives would be spared. One trial for Sorafanib recently received FDA approval.
Thank you to all the physicians and staff at Americare, Yale New Haven Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Fairfield County Visiting Nurse and Hospice for their expert care and compassion. A special thank you to Dr. Hari Despandi, Dr. Clarence Sasaki, Dr. Liz Holt and Dr. Kesav Nair.
Contributions in memory of Roger Louis Guimond can be made to the Closer To Free Fund, Yale Cancer and Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale, New Haven. Closer to Free Fund, P.O. Roger learned and lived more in his short life than those who will live to be 100.
Calling hours will be held at on Tuesday, April 15th from 5-8 pm at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Wednesday, April 16th at St. Joseph Church, 85 S. Main St, South Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery. A Thoughtful Belated Birth Date Remembrance of happy daze spent... I think of my beloved buddy often, and sleep with his funeral feather over my bed. This is so late, and I hope what I have to say brings a little peace, because it does in a round about sorta way express who my friend was. I don't remember how we met, but it was through music, and he was the kinda friend who we would talk now and again, years apart. And left off where we started. I had heard through the grapevine that things might not be OK, so I called my friend, 4 years ago. And he said I'm just fine, which is also a quote from one of his songs. I took him for his word, and since I love his music, asked him if he had any CD's left from Flowerland, this was about the time he was doing Belly Dancer. He sent me a bunch, some of the last few left. That he had,... So, time flies and I decided to call my friend, I didn't know he passed away. His last gift to me is pretty amazing, and proves how beautiful he was. I got a big piece of him in my heart.

Thank you all for the supportive comments and heartfelt emotions. To see names from the old days, and special names at that, brings forth strong memories. Today, our remaining family and Roger's longtime companion and fiancee Kerry Robinson laid my younger brother Roger to rest. Yesterday, at the wake, over 500 people, from all walks of life, paid there respects to him. Many, patiently waited in the gentle rain with a line that went out the door at the funeral home. This morning, the sun was bright, the air clear, and the service at Saint Josephs full of uplifting and revealing emotions for Roger. The winds today lifted Roger swiftly.
