Harvey E. Payne


Age 86, of Woodsedge Drive, Lansing, NY passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the Cayuga Medical Center. Born April 1, 1927 in Newfield, NY, he was a son of the late Gordon and Blanch Wilson Payne. Harvey attended Newfield High School and served in the US Navy during WW II and Korea. Harvey was employed as a tool and die maker at Therm, Inc. for 36 years. Following retirement, Harvey worked for the Lansing Recreation Dept. and The Tompkins Co. Board of Elections. He was a member and past Chief of the South Lansing Fire Company and had served as a Fire Commissioner of the Town of Lansing Fire District. He was a member of the Lansing Masonic Lodge and several concordant Masonic organizations for 50 years. Survivors include his children, John (Pam) Payne of Lansing, Alan (Joann) Payne of Lansing and Lisa (Greg) Lychalk of Smithfield, NC; his sisters, Clara Thompson, Doris Hixon and Edith Rozelle; grandchildren, Sheila (Jack) Whyte, Chad (Marie) Payne, Marcie (Joseph) Manning, Michael and Justin Payne, Zachary, Conner and Ashley Lychalk; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Joyce Murphy Payne; his son, Steven Payne; as well as brothers, Walter, Gordon and Richard Payne. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Jane Sautter officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Caroline Grove Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 PM, Sunday, at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY. Members of Lansing Lodge F.&A.M. will conduct a Masonic Service at 3:45 PM, Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are directed to the Lansing Recreation Department or the American Red Cross.
