Homer - DONALD ELWYN PHILLIPS - age 84. born in Homer, N.Y. to Olive and Elwyn Phillips. He died suddenly on June 9, 2018 at Cayuga Medical Center. Mr. Phillips was married to the former Violet Rosecrans and they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage in November. He graduated from Moravia Central School in 1952. He was a dairy farmer from 1952 to 1978 when he became a Rural Letter Carrier, retiring in 1991. He was also a school bus driver for Moravia Central School for 20 years and later a driver for Airline Limousine in Ithaca.Mr. Phillips was a 70 year member of Moravia Grange and a 7th degree member of National Grange. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Moravia, and Friendship Christian Community Church in Sebastian, Florida. He was a member and past president of Cayuga County Eastern Milk Producers and Cayuga County Rural Letter Carriers Association.After retirement, the Don and Violet traveled the country in their 5th wheel trailer with their beloved dog, Sally. They also visited Hawaii, and Alaska and cruised the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and the Rivers of Europe. They have wintered in Sebastian, Florida for the past 18 years.Mr. Phillips leaves behind three children, Bonnie (Donald) Steger of Sebastian, FL; Roger Phillips of Moravia, and Jim (Sharon) Phillips of Chittenango, NY. He also leaves nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren and four grand-dogs.Mr. Phillips was predeceased by a brother, Erwin, killed in the Pacific Theater, WW II in 1944 and a sister, Marjorie (Robert) Brislin, in 1988, as well as both parents. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Wade Funeral Home in Moravia.

Calling hours will be from 3-5 pm Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church, 36 Church St. Moravia. There will be a memorial service at 5 pm followed by refreshments. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Christ United Methodist Church, or Four-Town First Aid Squad, Box 28, Moravia, NY; or Friendship Christian Community Church, PO box 780216, Sebastian, FL 32958.
