John W. Rudan Obituary
John W. Rudan

- - John W. Rudan passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 7, 2017.

John was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and spent his early years in Canada. John's humble start as the son of Ukrainian immigrants, together with his early faith in the Ukrainian-Catholic church, inspired him to be a better man throughout his life. John went on to earn his Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Manitoba. At University, John met the love of his life Doreen, whom he would marry in 1956. After moving to Montreal, Quebec, John and Doreen worked their way up and started their family. In 1958, John was accepted to Cornell University, where he earned his graduate degree in Industrial Engineering. Early on, John took a keen interest in the computing field, spending most of his career developing academic computing systems at Cornell. John retired as Director Emeritus of Cornell Information Technology. However, in John's life, his wife, children, and grandchildren were always the center of his world, and he blessed the lives of each of his loved ones the best way he could.

John also embraced the local community and commitment to giving back to it. During his nearly 60 years in Ithaca, John did everything from coaching youth hockey, to public service in the Lion's Club, to volunteer work at Immaculate Conception Church, and so much more. Along the way, John was devoted to his entire family and the numerous friends whom he so dearly loved. He fondly remembered his many colleagues and acquaintances over the years. With his departing words, John said he had lived a really good life and that was good enough for him in the end.

John is predeceased by his parents Antin Rudan, Olena (Anhel) Rudan, and his sister Stephanie (Rudan) Borys. John is survived by his wife Doreen (Heuchert) Rudan, his children: John Rudan, Jr., Michael (Brenda Kelly) Rudan, and Tessa Rudan; and his grandchildren Megan, James, and William Rudan.

The family requests any donations be made in memory of John Rudan to Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca.

A memorial service for John will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 10 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 113 N. Geneva Street. There will be additional parking at the Immaculate Conception School.
