Martha passed away peacefully after a short illness on October 9, 2010, in Belmont, CA. She was born in Howell, MI on June 3, 1916 to Claude and Fern Van Patten Eager. Martha worked as an artist in fashion advertising in Washington, D.C., then moved to Ithaca, NY with her husband, Nicholas Chacona (deceased in 2006). She was a watercolor artist and member of the Ithaca Art Association. Martha worked for the Tompkins Trust Company for many years and was the artist for the bank's customer gifts. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Chacona of San Carlos, CA, her grandchildren, Cynthia Duong Wilcox of San Mateo, CA and Ezra Duong Van of Reston, VA and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial service is being planned.

Martha and Nick gave us one of her watercolors for a wedding gift. To this day it hangs in our living room. Martha´s paintings inspired me to paint.

I would love to connect with Martha's family. Martha was a friend of my parents (Capozzi) and she gave my husband and I one of her watercolors for a wedding gift. I enjoy it everyday...and she inspired me to become a watercolorist.

Every day I think of Martha when I view a country fall scene she painted many years ago. The beautiful watercolor was given to me and my husband as a wedding gift. Martha's work inspired me to begin watercolor painting. I am sure there are many others who share in her legacy through her exceptional art work. My condolences to her family.
