LANCASTER – Mr. Ronald Otho "Ron" McGuire, 70, went home to be with his Lord and savior on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017.
He was born in Rock Hill, on Feb. 9, 1947, the son of the late Walter and Louise Boatwright McGuire. He grew up in the Presbyterian Church and accepted the Lord at an early age. Later, he joined the Baptist faith. When he was a member of Camp Creek Baptist, Ron taught the young adult Sunday school class and served on numerous committees. He enjoyed driving the church van to pick up children and senior adults who needed transportation. Ron has been a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church for over 20 years and has served on various committees, including the Personnel and Finance Committees.
Anyone who knew Ron recognized his workaholic nature. As a youth, he had a paper route and worked at a turkey farm. His first "real" job was at the Celanese in Rock Hill. He was an accountant for Duke Power in Charlotte until 1980. Then he became self-employed as the owner and operator of McGuire's Accounting & Tax Service. He considered it a privilege to serve his clients, and he enjoyed getting to know them on a personal level as well.
Ron graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1975 with a bachelor in science degree in business administration. He was a die-hard Gamecocks fan. He enjoyed the rivalry between Clemson and Carolina.
Ron was a true outdoors man. He was an avid marksman and loved to hunt, fish and sail his boat. He enjoyed watching MMA on TV. Ron enjoyed helping his mother with her flower garden, especially with the pansies in front of his office.
Ron leaves behind quite a legacy. He served in the U.S. Navy for seven years. He is a National Vietnam Veteran. He was a devoted husband, exemplary father, doting grandfather, professional colleague, loyal friend and compassionate Brother-N-Christ.
Ron is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy Bowers McGuire; a son, Darin and his wife, Scarlet; two aunts, Sally Mull and Kat Pressley; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; a large extended family; and a son from a previous marriage, Ronnie and his children, Destiney and Dillian.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Olin McGuire; a sister-in-law; and a brother-in-law.
The celebration of life/home-going service for Ron will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Hyde Park Baptist, officiated by the Revs. Charlie Simpson, Bill Parker and Eddie Burris. Burial will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Burgess Funeral Home.
