ROSE SAKAI Obituary
San Antonio - Rose Marie Sakai, went to be with the Lord on December 22, 2011. She was born in 1924 in Hidalgo County.
Rose Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Minoru and Toku Kawahata, her husband, Yutaka "Pete" Sakai, her brother, Henry Kawahata, her two sisters, Mary Okazaki and Nell Kawahata.
Rose Marie lived most of her life in Hidalgo and attended Hidalgo schools and played tennis on the McHi tennis team. She graduated from McAllen High in 1942. She was a nurse and worked for Dr. Burgess and Dr. Schulz in McAllen during the '40's and '50's. She was the church secretary for Trinity Baptist Church in the '70's and '80's and was a member of the First Baptist Church in McAllen for many years. Rose Marie was a loving mother, grandmother and friend, she will be greatly missed. During her last year, we deeply appreciate the compassionate care and thoughtful support provided to our mother and family by the Sisters of the Incarnate Word Sister Care, Alamo hospice staff, doctors and countless friends.
Rose Marie is survived by her children: Peter(Rachel) Sakai, Paul Sakai, Kathleen Sakai and Randall(Beverly) Sakai and three grandchildren: George Sakai, Elizabeth Sakai and James Sakai.
A visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Kreidler Funeral Home on N.10th. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Kreidler Funeral Home with Rev. John Tisdale officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Maynard Kreidler, Carl Otsuki, Jim Rowland, Albert Samano, Wayne Sojak and Marty Withington. The Honorary Pallbearers are Guy Bentsen, Robert Frick, Happy Kitayama and Burl Mullins.
The family suggests that friends make memorial donations to Child Advocates of San Antonio, 7911 Broadway, San Antonio, Tx 78209 or to the Harlandale Education Foundation, Inc., 102 Genevieve Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78214 or to the Gideons International, McAllen Camp, PO Box 2671, McAllen, Texas 78502 or to the charity of one's choice.

i had the privilege and joy of knowing mr. and mrs. sakai when i worked at the trailways terminal in the 70's. they were a blessing to me because they were hardworking, diligent, quiet and unassuming. i always enjoyed learning from them. i shall always carry their memory with me. though our hearts may be broken at the moment, we may find comfort that mrs. sakai is with her saviour and reunited with mr. sakai. truly a beautiful couple. my condolences to the sakai family. god bless you.

When we first moved to South Texas and began attending First Baptist Church in 2004, we sat in the pew in front of Mrs. Sakai during the Sunday worship services. We enjoyed visiting with her each Sunday, and we always looked forward to seeing her. We were sorry to learn earlier this year of her illness and extend our sympathy to her family at this difficult time. Sincerely, The Knight Family.
