MARTIN KNELL November 11, 1918 - January 28, 2015 Martin Knell (Marty) of McAllen, Texas passed away at his private residence on January 28, 2015 after a long illness. Marty was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and graduated from Logan High School in Logan, West Virginia. Marty was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Mae "Penny" Knell. Marty and Penny were married October 23, 1941 and lived in West Virginia and Texas. They were members of the First Christian Church of McAllen. Marty had a long career with the United States Postal Service and enjoyed retirement for 34 years. He was a World War II Veteran who served his country proudly. He will always be remembered as a devoted and adoring husband to wife Penny, father to his son Mark, and Papaw to his grandsons and great grandchildren. Marty is survived by his son Mark Knell, and his wife, Sandy, of New Braunfels, TX; grandsons, Doug Knell, his wife, Heather, and their children, Bryce and Gunnar of Boerne, TX and Ryan Knell, his wife, Jennifer and their children, Leighton and Harper, of Spring Branch, TX; niece Terry Cooper, her husband, Gary, and their son, Brent of Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law, Ruth Fletcher of Rockford, TN; former daughter-in-law, and mother of Doug and Ryan, Linda Schoening of Boerne, TX; life-long friend, Paula Ruiz of Edinburg, TX, and the many friends he came to know at the Comfort House who cared for him deeply. A graveside service for family and friends is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Valley Memorial Gardens with Pastor Max Grubb of First Christian Church of McAllen, TX officiating.
