San Juan - Oscar Alaniz Palacios, 75, residing in San Juan, Texas, died at home after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, his extended family and his fur babies Apollo and Colt.

Oscar was born and grew up in Pharr, Texas, graduating from PSJA High School. He was a proud Longhorn, graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with an undergraduate degree in Political Science in 1969 and the University of Texas School of Law, receiving his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1971. Oscar inspired generations in his family as a lifelong Longhorn fan and a Texas Ex. Oscar began his law career in 1972 with the F.B. Godinez law firm in Lubbock, Texas. He then founded his own law firm on January 1, 1974 in Pharr, Texas practicing law for 48 years.

Lawyers master language to advocate for their clients. What made Oscar exceptional was his deeds, not just his words - he became a lawyer for the best reasons - a belief in justice for all. True to his humble roots, Oscar put principles before pay. He believed justice should not be determined by what you can afford. Oscar put those words into action as a respected servant leader in his community - whether with clients, family or friends, Oscar helped those in need, when no one was looking. To quote Don Quixote: "The man who fights for his ideals is the man who is alive." And in his time with us, Oscar embodied a life well lived.

Preceded in death by his parents Moncerrato and Elida Alaniz Palacios, brother Omar Palacios. Survived by his wife Raquenel V. Palacios, children Michelle Iris (Chris) Rodriguez, J. Michael Palacios, Marie Renee Palacios; siblings Olga (Robert) Rutledge, Oralia (Hugo Gonzalez+), Odilia (Tomas) Arredondo, Orfelinda (Justo+) Vela; seven grandchildren Krysta Michelle (Justin) Marmolejo, Brendan Michael Palacios, Kirstyn Mikali Rodriguez, Tristan Adrian Garza, Omar Michael Palacios, Micah Chris Rodriguez, Ella Michael Palacios, a great-granddaughter Corinth Atlas Marmolejo; 42 nieces, nephews; and 4 fur babies Apollo, Noe-G, Colt and QB.

My name is Arturo Chapa. I met Oscar in the middle of the 1970's when I started my career as a claims adjuster. He was always very professional, friendly and great to speak with. We always shared stories when we spoke. I think of him every time I drive by his office on the expressway. I remember those times I met with him. My sincerest condolences to the family. You were all blessed to have had him in your lives. He was a blessing in my life. My prayers and thoughts go out to you all. God bless. Art

Vaya con Dios mi amigo, today I remember many pleasant moments we shared... in the courtroom and sharing a few cold ones. Mis respetos amigo... you earned it....I’ll remember always that you would tell me how you much preferred to be outdoors supervising construction rather than in the courtroom in a coat and Tie... SALUD mi amigo!
