Daniel L. Christensen Obituary
Christensen, Daniel L. age 65; of Shepherd; passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 at his daughter's home after a difficult fight with cancer. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church (1402 Preston St.) in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Mike Biedenbender officiating. There will be Visitation from 9am until time of service. Dan was born April 5, 1952 in Muskegon, the son of Arthur and Josephine (Staniszewski) Christensen. He graduated from Fruitport High in 1970. Dan served in the Navy from 1970 to 76 and served 2 tours in Vietnam. He married Brenda Berger on October 28, 1972. They moved to Muskegon where he worked several jobs until he joined the MPSC (Michigan Public Service Commission) in February of 1980 where he was at the Grass Lake Post. Dan went to the Romeo Post in 1982 when the MPSC converted to the MSP (Michigan State Police) Academy. He worked for the State Police Motor Carriers division and worked in Pontiac in 1983 and eventually in Mt. Pleasant in 1984 and served there until 2007 when he retired. After retirement, Dan worked part time jobs, one being at Walmart where he made many friends. God, family, and country were most important in his life. Dan and Brenda's dream for many years was to travel in their 5 th wheel trailer. In 2015 they sold their home of 31 years and hit the road! Dan enjoyedhunting, fishing crafting, camping, working with wood, traveling, and of course his dogs. Dan is survived by his wife Brenda; 3 children Tracy (Brian) Wood of Mt. Pleasant, Holly (Ryan) Johnson of Burton, and Eric (Meredith) Christensen of Hillsboro, MO; 4 granddaughters Kelsey and Taylor Wood, AnyaChristensen, and Josephine Christensen; his brother David (Peggy) Christensen of Muskegon; and 6 nieces and nephews. Dan is preceded by both his parents. The family would like to thank the Faith Lutheran Church and Residential Hospice for all their love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations will support the UMCCC Bladder Cancer Program.
