Gary R. Johnson Obituary
Johnson, Gary R. Age 68, of Alma passed away Monday, July 9, 2018 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland. He was born on September 3, 1949 in Alma the son of Carl and Shirley (Crane) Johnson. He was a 1967 graduate of Ithaca High School and attended Ferris College, earning an Associate's Degree in Tool and Die Design. He worked as a clerk for the Alma Post Office and would retire after 34 years of service, as a letter carrier. He married Linda Porter on May 14, 1977 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alma. Gary served his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division. He enjoyed playing basketball, softball and golfing with friends. He had a love for history, old Western movies and was known as a food buff. He will be remembered for his energetic storytelling, veracious penchant for broadcast media and his unwavering love and devotion for his family. Gary is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda of Alma, three children; Timothy (Faith Chaffee) Johnson of Alma, Kristina (Dan) Lewis of West Branch, Matthew Johnson of Alma, two granddaughters; Rowan Peace and Charlotte Johnson, a sister; Paula Gotcher of Perry, a brother; James S. "Jimmy" Johnson of Ithaca and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Carl and Shirley Johnson, a sister; Charlene Johnson and brother-in-law; Lee Gotcher. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11 am at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home 531 N. State St. Alma, MI 48801 with Fr. Andrzej Boroch officiating. Interment will follow in Ithaca Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family.
