Max Joseph Gladding Obituary
Gladding, Max Joseph Age 91, of Mecosta, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Green Acres in Mt. Pleasant. He was born July 15, 1926 in Ionia the son of Earl Edwin and Loisa (Christensen) Gladding. Before graduating from Mecosta High School in 1945, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served until his honorable discharge in 1947. On June 21, 1947 he married Ruth Elaine Adams of Mecosta in Elm Hall, MI. Together they had three daughters, Rebecca, Melissa and Pamela. In 1950 he bought a 70 acre farm just south of Elm Hall. He formed the Max Gladding Masonry Construction Co. in 1958 and lived on his farm until his retirement in 1996. He moved to Horsehead Lake north of Mecosta, MI in 1998. Max was an avid hunter, loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed working in his woods on his farm. He loved snowmobiling, water skiing, jet skiing and baseball. He will be fondly remembered for his friendly personality, helping hand, and as the "keeper" of Horsehead Lake. He is survived by three daughters, Rebecca Burhans of Elwell, Melissa Gladding of Elm Hall, Pam (Rod) Ewalt of Sheridan, grandsons, Adam (Molly) Burhans, Warren (Lisa) Burhans, Ryan Burhans, Joe Moffett, Garett and Dak Ewalt, granddaughters, Samantha (Phil) Sniegowski, Stephanie (Randall) Darling, Sarah and Amy Moffett, eight great grandchildren: Jalyn and Jace Burhans, Allison and Emily Burhans, Rashaun and Bethany Brown, Olivia O'Connor and R.J. Darling and two sisters, Janis Beard and Louise Willard. Max was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Phillip, Earl and Norman "Pete", sisters, Pauline Tomlin, Arlene Miller, son-in-law, Richard Burhans, and one great-grandson, Brad Moffett. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 11 am at the Seville Community Church of God with Pastor George Showers officiating. Interment will follow in Elm Hall Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 4th from 2 to 5 pm at Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Riverdale.
