Richard Coon Obituary
Coon, Richard Age 87, of Lake George, formerly of Alma, passed away peacefully at his home on March 9, 2018. He was born January 6, 1931 in Saginaw, Michigan the son of Claude and Esther (Graham) Coon. After graduating from Alma High School in 1951, Dick served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. On February 13, 1954 he married Sally Raye Wickersham in Alma and together they had four children. His greatest joy was spending time with family. Dick loved to follow the many activities of his children and grandchildren and traveled near and far for sporting events, dance recitals, choir concerts, and graduations. As an avid sports fan, he was proud to finally win the Coon Family College Football Bowl Pool for the first-time last year. His quick-wit, his jovial and fun-loving personality, his stubborn attitude, and most of all, his caring heart will always be remembered. If Dick met a stranger, he wasn't a stranger for long. Dick spent many hours in his workshop, creating unique projects. He loved being at the family cottage and took great pride in watching each generation grow and enjoy the lake and its memories. For over 75 years, five generations of the Coon Family have cherished "The Cottage." Dick was a member of the Alma Elks Lodge #1400, the Moose Lodge in Harrison and the Masonic Lodge #244 in Alma. He retired from Local 85 Pipefitter in Saginaw after 30 years of services in 1996. Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sally of Lake George, four children; Jack (Erin) Coon of Cheboygan, Kenneth (Lori) Coon of Abita Springs, LA, Michael (Sandy) Coon of Romeo and Michele Bigelow of Alma, 11 grandchildren; William Coon, Ryan (Brianna) Coon, Sissy Blewster, Joe (Lindsie) Robb, Jaclyn (Thomas) Wooldridge, Mitchell (Amanda) Bigelow, Melissa Coon, Melanie Coon, Erica Bigelow, Evan Bigelow, Collin Engel, six great-grandchildren; Winston Blewster IV, Emma Grace Coon, Ashlyn Wooldridge, Blaire and Riley Carpenter, Lemmy Robb, and one more on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Hillary Bigelow, and his brother, Jack Coon. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 on March 14 at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma. On March 15, the family will receive friends and family from 10-11 at the First Presbyterian Church in Alma with funeral services following at 11:00.
