John Vindigni Obituary

John Vindigni Sr., 69, passed away on March 5th at his Metairie home. John was born December 21st, 1948, in Gary, Indiana. A soulful musician from birth, John's voice rang in various legendary venues spanning the entire country, from ""The Blue Room"" in New Orleans, to Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas. His life carried a constant rhythm, and through his career he toured with Louisiana legends such as Benny Grunch and the Bunch, The Wiseguys, and many more. For 11 years he lived the melodic life of a ""piano man,"" performing for countless crowds at the Piano Bar in New Orleans' own Pat O'Brien's. John held a permanent and deep love for his family, animals, motorcycles, and the Oakland Raiders. He was preceded in death by his father, Santo Vindigni. He is survived by the love of his life, Lenita Martinez; mother Katherine Vindigni; brother Sal Vindigni; children Jade Guidry, John Vindigni Jr., Kevin Maillet, Corey Martinez, and Stacie Heffker; grandchildren Emily, Michael, Julian, Sam, George, Cole, and Quinn; as well as many friends. His voice, life, and love echoed again with the birth of his most recent grandchild, John, this Spring. Arrangements entrusted to the Neptune Society of New Orleans.

I remember Johnny from a night club in the French Quarter that he and his band played mostly on weekends.
His voice was captivating & distinct, his presence was overpowering & captivating ! Almost like a " Rod Stewart" uniqueness... but better.

I was so sorry to hear about Johnny's passing. I am the younger brother of Emile Guess, a long time friend and past band member of Johnny's. I recently found a CD in my brother's collection of Johnny- Titled- The Corvettes 1966, also listed are the members of the band-Johny Spade, Don Normand, Paul Walters, AJ Mascari, Steve Backarack, and Don Duthier?. Sorry if I missed spelled some names but the handwriting was hard to make out. I haven't listened to it yet but will later. I'm thinking this is a part of NOLA music history. Anyone interested in making a copy, please contact me. I also found another copy of my brother with the above band members of 1965 recorded at the VFW hall in Westwego. Actually listening to it now with chills hearing my brother's soulful voice.

Hello and condolences to Johnny's family. My name is Alan Diaz, I was. Johnny's drummer in the band Quantrel in the mid 1970's. I just found out about Johnny's death and was very shocked. We were a month apart. I was born Nov. 19 and he Dec. 23 in1948. It hurts me to find out he didn't make it to his 70th b'day just a few days ago. I would love if someone in his family would get in touch with me at [email protected]. Thank you.
