Doris Victoria Simon Hunter Obituary
Doris Victoria Simon Hunter emerged into eternal life on Thursday, January 3rd, 2019, she was 78. Doris known to family and close friends as "Maug" spent her early days as a resident of Harvey La. and later raised her own family in Terrytown La. Doris was a graduate of Southern University and Loyola University in New Orleans where she earned a Masters' degree in Special Education. She was an employee of Jefferson Parish School System where she spent her career teaching students with special needs until her retirement in 1998. A teacher to her core, Doris often spent time with her students outside of the classroom and offered refuge to kids who needed extra help. The eldest daughter of late Milton Simon and Louise Gasper Simon, she was big sister to Barbara Faison and Simone Simon (who preceded her in death) and Grace Sider and Cathy Simon who are left to celebrate her life. Formerly married to the late Julius Henderson Hunter Jr., she was the beloved mother of Julius Henderson Hunter III and Erica Hunter Douroux; she also shared a special bond with her only grandchild, India Havannah Douroux. Survived by many relatives, special life-long friends, In-laws, and co-workers all of whom are invited to celebrate her life at Rhodes Funeral Home, 1020 Virgil St. Gretna La. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 11:00 am. Pastor Louis Brooks Harrison of Mt. Pilgrim, officiating. Visitation will begin at 10.am. Interment: Private. Arrangements by D.W.
