Ernest D. (E.D.) Carter

Funeral services for Ernest D. (E.D.) Carter, of Monroe, will be held at 3:30 PM Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Rowland Road Baptist Church with Rev. Norman B. Bryant and Rev. Vic Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Ernest D. (E.D.) Carter went to be with the Lord at 90 years of age on December 10, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born to Ocie and Nancy Carter on February 2, 1923 in Wilmot, AR. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Carter was also a well-known business man and land developer. He was a founding member of Rowland Road Baptist Church and co-founded the Rowland Road Baptist Church Film Ministry with Rev. Vic Carter. E.D. was also a longtime member of The Gideons.

E.D. was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Frank and Donald Carter; and one sister, Varnell Gunter.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Hortense (Dolly) Carter of Monroe; two daughters, Ava Nan Pate and husband LaDell of West Monroe, LA, and Carolyn Parham and husband, Reggie of Pineville, LA; one son, Richard Carter and wife Theresa of Crossett, AR; five grandsons, Curtis Pate, Craig Pate, Edward Parham, Jason Carter, and Justin Carter; four granddaughters, Angie Gore, Celli Bryan, Cindi Henagan, and Amber Carter Willink; sixteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He also leaves to cherish his memory his secretary and loyal friend for over 30 years, Bonnie Tumlinson.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Pate, Craig Pate, Edward Parham, Jason Carter, Justin Carter, and Mike Henagan. Honorary pallbearers will be James Adams, Tommy Moore, Charles Duncan, Leonard Kellebrew, Al Kelly, and Jackie Gilbert.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, and Saturday from 2:30 PM until service time at Rowland Road Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Barnes and the doctors and staff of St. Francis Medical Center for the excellent care that we received while he was hospitalized.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Gideons International.
