Gayette Doris Spence Ulrich

Monroe, LA - Gayette Doris Spence Ulrich, 90, passed peacefully from this life at her home early Saturday morning, January 13, 2018. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last years of her life.

Gayette was born in Cook County, IL on November 20, 1927, to Gavin and Rua Spence. She grew up in Dubuque, IA and was trained as a nurse at the Mayo Clinic. While in school, she met and fell in love with a handsome young doctor. She and Dr. Christian Ulrich married and upon the end of his training at the Mayo Clinic, they moved to Monroe, LA, where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Their first two children, Christine and Tom were born in Rochester, MN and their third son, Mark, was born in Monroe.

Gayette was an active volunteer in the Strauss Theatre, Monroe Junior League, Ouachita Medical Auxiliary, Red Cross, School for the Deaf, and the Monroe Symphony League. She performed in many plays at the Strauss Theatre Center.

She is survived by her three children: Christine (Kenny) Bonds of Moscow, AR; Rev. Tom (Rev. Cathy) Ulrich of Akron, OH; and Mark (Ruth) Ulrich of Monroe, LA. Her grandchildren are Michelle Bonds (Chad) of Dallas, TX; Christopher (Sarah) of Chicago, IL; and Laura Elisabeth Ulrich of Monroe, LA.

The family is especially grateful for the loving care from Virginia Ikard and the staff from Always Best Care Senior Services.

A private graveside funeral service will be held at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago on January 20, 2018.
