Cora Sue Grower Bishop

Monroe - A private family service for Sue Bishop, 80, of Monroe, LA will be held Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 2:30 P.M. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Monroe, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home - Monroe. The Rev'd. T. Whitfield Stodghill, III will be officiating.

Sue was born October 13, 1940 in Monroe, LA and passed away December 14, 2020. After attending the Ouachita Council on Aging as a volunteer, Sue joined the staff as the Senior Center Coordinator where she planned and participated in many activities. Her laugh, her smile and especially her infectious spirit brightened the lives of the seniors she served.

During Sue's Army wife career she contributed at several Army posts. While at Fort Irwin, CA the Department of the Army presented Sue with a Certificate of Appreciation for Patriotic Service that sums up who Sue was by saying the following: For exceptionally patriotic service to the Fort Irwin Community while serving as the Army Community Service Volunteer Corps Supervisor, a position of leadership and great responsibility. She was a driving force behind the expansion and continuing success of the Army Community Service Volunteer Corps. During her tenure, she developed and maintained a vigorous, service-oriented Volunteer Corps whose fundamental value was unwavering support to the Fort Irwin Community. Her actions epitomize volunteer service and a sincere belief in both Army Community Service and the Fort Irwin Community. Her distinguished and monumental record of over 1000 highly productive volunteer service hours reflect distinct credit upon herself, the National Training Center, and the United States Army.

While at Fort Polk, LA Sue was a Red Cross volunteer, a volunteer at the thrift shop which provided opportunities for many families in need, assisted at the elementary school helping children with their reading; and in Augsburg, Germany Sue was president of the Officer's Wives Club.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Noel and Cora Grower and sister, Olivia Grower Phillips.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Suzanne White of Monroe, LA; son, James White, III (wife, Sheri) of Spanish Fort, AL; grandchildren, J. Walter and Amanda White of Spanish Fort, AL; brother, Noel E. "Pete" Grower (Sherry) of Haile, LA; and sisters, Pam Smith (Patty) of San Luis, CO and Glenda Wroten of Pace FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ouachita Council on Aging.
