Stephen Guenard Obituary

Stephen Voelker Guenard

Lake Providence - Steve Guenard took his final flight on December 23, 2018. He passed away peacefully at his family home, Arlington, in Lake Providence, LA. Steve was born in Vicksburg, MS to Stephen and Flournoy Guenard on April 4, 1948. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1970 and served as an F-106 pilot in the Air Force from 1970-1975. In 1976 he was hired by Delta Air Lines. He flew for Delta for 27 years before retiring from the Salt Lake City base in 2003.

Steve is survived by his wife of 43 years, Anne of Park City, UT, sons, Zack (Kristin) of Park City, John (Jennifer) of Metairie, LA, and grandchildren, Imbrie and Wesley of Park City.

Steve lived a life filled with love of family, community, and aviation. He was dedicated to preserving World War II aircraft and to keeping them flying. He co-founded the Heber Aero Museum and was a member of the Commemorative Air Force. For most people, the sky is the limit. For Steve, the sky was his home.

A funeral mass will be held January 12 at 3:00pm at St. Patrick Church in Lake Providence.

Memorial donations may be sent to: Commemorative Air Force, Utah Wing, PO Box 507, Heber City, UT, 84032.

A Great Guy! Strong values, decent, a good sense of humor and a tolerant and ever-patient instructor. Steve was all of these and so much more. It was my honor serve with him on staff and to ride with him to many destinations, or; perhaps no destination at all. Steve, you played a role in many of my fondest memories. Clear skies and peace to you.

With deepest condolences to Anne and the entire family. May you be comforted from this loss.

Steve was super generous with his time and fabulous airplanes. This is right after he'd checked out my friend Dean.

Another memorable photo. We called Steve "The Great Guenardo" or "The Great" for brevity. Here he is with the WW II Lockheed Harpoon and a bevy of admirers.

Steve was a gentleman and a superb pilot. His dedication to the memory of his father and uncle and their aviation history was reflected in every aspect of his flying. We will all miss him terribly.

Steve, my 1st cousin, was one of my childhood hero's. I helped him build boats at the airport. He even let me sink one. I got to fly with him in his J3 Cub and spent many days with him at his home, Arlington. In recent years we even got to do an Airshow together. Steve has left a great legacy behind him and he has had a lifelong impact on my love for aviation. You will be missed.
