William W. Manthe
William "Bill" Manthe, age 83, of Neshkoro, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Berlin Memorial Hospital. Bill was born at home on December 2, 1929, in the Township of Windsor, Dane County, the son of Martin and Edna (Wernick) Manthe. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Leeds, he attended Happy Hour Grade School and graduated from DeForest High School in1947. On August 12, 1950, Bill married LaVonne Knudtson in Norway Grove Lutheran Church in DeForest. He served his Country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, and was stationed in San Francisco, CA. Bill and LaVonne raised their family in Madison, and he worked for Webcrafters for 37 years as a Bindery Foreman until his retirement. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Madison until moving to Neshkoro, where he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Bill was a proud member of the American Legion, Krause-Gley-Crane Post 423 in Neshkoro.
Bill is survived by three daughters, Donna (Glenn) Clayton of Naperville, IL, Debra (Jeffrey) Kappel of Cottage Grove, and Mary (Neal) Krause of Neshkoro; six grandchildren, John Kappel, Jason (Melissa) Krause, Laura (Stephen) Blacksmith, Kristine (Scott Willan) Kappel, Daniel (Amy) Clayton, and Jake Krause; and three great-grandchildren that lovingly referred to him as 'Grandpa Pancake', Jack and Tessa Krause and Benjamin Blacksmith. He is also survived by one sister, Isabel Arneson, three brothers, Norbert Manthe, Raymond (Suzanne) Manthe, and Donald (Shirley) Manthe; and many other beloved in-laws and relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife LaVonne on December 28, 2006, his parents, parents-in-law, George and Anna Knudtson, three sisters, Elaine Ziegler, Doris Welch, and Karen Kilen and three brothers, Eugene, Gerald and James Manthe and many beloved in-laws.
The family of William Manthe will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 227 North State Street in Neshkoro. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with The Reverend Franklin Giebel officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Lunch will be served in the church basement.
