Carol Smith Obituary
Carol Smith

Oshkosh - Carol Goff Smith climbed aboard the Train of Good Hope on June 4, 2018, enroute to her final destination; the gates of heaven. Carol was born on June 1, 1930, in Sturgeon Bay, WI, the daughter of Moulton and Agnes Goff. She grew up amidst the Goff Orchards, one of Door County's largest and most productive apple and cherry orchards. Later she moved with her family to Davenport, IA, and then Evanston, IL, where she graduated from Evanston Township High School and later graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, with a degree in Home Economics.

Carol decided to combine her two loves - meeting people and traveling - and became a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines known as TWA. She worked both domestic and international routes flying out of her two home bases in New York City and Los Angeles. During an extended work stoppage at TWA she met the love of her life, Joe Smith, and they married on January 31, 1959, in Bel Air, CA. In those days flight attendants were not permitted to be married and continue to fly as a hostess so Carol's career in the airlines ended and she and Joe settled into life in Los Angeles.

After Joe's retirement in 1995 the couple moved to Oshkosh, WI, to be closer to family. Carol was active with American Field Service (AFS) for 33 years and was a proud, long term member of P.E.O. Carol enjoyed the company of her many pets over the years. She enjoyed creative writing and accumulating her ever expanding collection of dolls and stuffed animals.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Joe; brothers, Charles, Moulton, Robert, and Emmett; and her sister, Helen. Carol is survived by her sister-in-law Lois (Emmett) Goff; and six nieces and seven nephews.

A memorial service honoring the life of Carol Smith will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. in Evergreen Manor Chapel, 1130 N. Westfield Street, in Oshkosh. Carol lived eleven happy years at Evergreen. We wish to extend our gratitude for the help, love, and companionship the staff and residents provided Carol at Evergreen. Online condolences to the family may be given at www.seefeldfuneral.com.
