James Wendt Obituary
James Wendt

Berlin - James D. Wendt, age 91, a lifelong resident of Berlin, died peacefully in the early hours of July 2, 2018, at Juliette Manor.

He was born on October 24, 1926 at the family home on N. Washington Street, the fourth child and second son of Martin and Tillie (Drover) Wendt.

Jim attended St. Michael Catholic and Berlin High School having to serve mass every day one summer for setting off firecrackers in the sacristy.

Jim served in the Army Air Force, doing basic training in Biloxi, MS and then stationed at Williams Field Chandler, AZ where he was an instrument specialist working on P-51's.

Returning home after service, Jim and his bestest of pals (lifelong friends) Jimmy Briskie, Jimmy Krause and Ray Stobbe, took the road trip of a lifetime. Each put $200 dollars in the glove compartment and off they went, returning with just pennies and plenty of stories to tell.

Jim was active in the Jaycee's being a past member and president, also in the Lion's Club, being past member and President. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Jim spent most of his working years at Hamilton Shoe Store, retiring after 38 years.

On August 27, 1978, Jim married Ruthann Kuble.

Jim was a wonderful cook, he truly enjoyed cooking and boy could he cook grill a steak! Reading was another pastime he enjoyed, always reading. He enjoyed being outside, be it mowing the lawn, tilling the garden, or just sitting taking in all nature had to offer. He had a great knowledge of Berlin, a wonderful sense of humor, and quick wit. Sometimes it was hard to tell if he was pulling your leg or not, but the twinkle in his eye usually gave him away.

A thoughtful, kind, generous man was Jim who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was the best of the best and will be truly missed.

Jim is survived by his devoted, loving wife Ruthann, mother-in -law, Jeanette Kuble; sisters-in-law, Karen (Rod) Perry, Mary Appleton, Susan (Dean) Mittelstaedt, Patricia Parker, Catherine Kuble, Margie (Ray) Dilty; nieces, Glenne (Jim) McMonigal, Janet (Terry) Blazer; nephew, Fred (Mary) Winkowski; four great- nieces and four great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Florian (Beryl); sisters, Marie (Ed) Winkowski and Leone (Al) Welk; father-in-law, John Kuble; brother-in-law, John Kuble. He was also preceded in death by four faithful canine companions.

The family would like to thank everyone at Juliette Manor who touched his life when he was there for five years and six months. The care he received was so wonderful, he sure did like to tease.

To Agnesian Green Lake Hospice Hope for the care these last six months, thank you. Jim was so fortunate to have a group like you. Ramona, you were there in the end, so supportive and comforting, thank you. "Sis", Jim enjoyed your visits and prayers, God Bless You.

Family and friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 1-3:00 p.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of Berlin. A rosary will be recited at 2:45 p.m. A prayer service officiated by Father David Greenfield will be held at 3:00 p.m. following the rosary.
