Morton, Richard John

Richard John Morton, 42, of Oshkosh, passed away tragically on March 12, 2014. He was born on April 23, 1971 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England to John and Greta (née Lumb) Morton. In 2000 his career with 4imprint brought him to Oshkosh, where he had made his home. He excelled in the field of computing and software, which eventually led him to become the Director of E-Commerce with the company.

On August 11, 2012, Richard married the love of his life Meryl (née Anderson.) They were so looking forward to building a life together, and although their time together was brief, there are many happy memories to last a lifetime.

Richard will be remembered as a witty, gentle, and generous soul who touched so many that were fortunate enough to know him. A lover of nature, an adventurer at heart, an artist, and lover of animals, his cheeky smile and sense of humor brought joy to so many. He will be especially remembered for his love of Lego, and was well on his way to building an empire, brick by colorful brick.

Richard is survived by wife, Meryl, of Oshkosh, as well as his parents, John and Greta, and his brothers Michael Hawksworth, Ian Hawksworth, and Andrew Hawksworth, all of England. He is further survived by aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, many cousins and extended family and additionally by his parents-in-law Rock and Sherrill Anderson and Paul and Susan Jones, and brother-in-Law Mac Jones. Richard had also built up a large network of friends in the Oshkosh area as well as back at home in England, who were like a second family to him. He will be so very sadly missed by those he leaves behind.

Richard was preceded in death by his grandparents Ada Morton and Leonard and Dorina Lumb.

Memorial services for Richard will be held on Saturday March 22, 2014 at 12noon at the Fiss & Bills Funeral Home @ 865 S. Westhaven Drive. Oshkosh, WI 54904. Rev. Roger Bertschausen will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his honor.

It was a pleasure to know and work with Richard at 4imprint. His enthusiasm for web technology was always ahead of others and his passion to get it right was just wonderful to see in someone. Of course he had a love for Lego and pioneered a wonderful little business. He will never be forgotten.

Richard was family! Sadly we didn't have him long but he was family. There will be an empty seat at the table for all those special events, and we will remember him with stories and our hearts will warm with gratitude that he was part of the clan. He packed so much into life if nothing else he's teaching me now I should be doing the same. Thank you Richard for all the blessings you brought to Meryl and to us.

I met Richard in the late 1990's at 4imprint when he visited then later joined our department in the states.

I had never met anyone from the UK, and eagerly anticipated getting to know a person so intelligent who had achieved such a high level of success early in life.

Becoming acquainted with Richard I was intrigued: How could someone so accomplished not be boastful or ever draw attention to himself?

This unassuming man with his quiet charm and twinkling sense of fun quickly attracted many admiring coworkers and friends.

With a bounce in his step and a ready smile, he was a boyish, totally unpretentious, likable figure.

Although I was never lucky enough to count myself in Richard's inner circle of friends, in my mind, he was the epitome of an English gentleman, in his manners, his kindness and his generosity of outlook.

It is a universally sad thought that we shall not see Richard again in this life. But what a privilege to have known him.

I offer my deepest condolences to his family and in particular to his wife Meryl who I never met, but is evident from pictures he loved and made him the happiest I've ever seen.

It was an honor to work with Richard over the past fourteen years. Although he was a computer genius, he never acted superior, but treated everyone with patience and respect. Richard was truly one of the nicest guys I've ever worked with. He will be sadly missed.

I have so many lovely memories of you Richard. Butlins with Grandma Lumb when we never stopped laughing, fossiling on scaly hills....you used to get so excited, Christmas with all the family playing chase the ace. So thankful for these wonderful memories of you at this incredibly sad time. Your cousin, Joanne xx

She laughed, so I laughed with you.
She was happy, so I was happy for you.
You completed her, which helped me feel complete.
You gave me hope for true love, which is no small feat.
I felt envy because your love was true
I loved you for loving her the way you do.
