Charles E. "Charlie" MacDonald Obituary
MacDonald, Charles E. "Charlie'

Gone home to be with his Lord on December 28, 2013, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, Wisconsin. Born on March 28, 1923, to Charles and Elsie MacDonald in Oshkosh, where he lived until he entered the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister brother, and niece. He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Stuart) Thomas, niece, Robyn (Larry) Phillips, nephew, Michael MacDonald and a great-niece. He was a very proud grandfather of Steven and Kristina and great-grandfather of Ethan and Abigail.

Charlie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 until 1948. He served aboard four ships and received four Bronze Stars and numerous campaign ribbons. Following his service in the Navy, he went to work for the Milwaukee Road Railroad as a brakeman until his retirement in 1985. He was very involved in Gesu Parish and volunteered at the Clement J. Zablocki V.A. Medical Center in Milwaukee and received a Volunteer Service Award for 23 years of service. He enjoyed crossword-puzzles, "bumming around," as he put it, going to McDonald's and Burger King with friends and visiting with people around him even if he did not know them. He will be remembered for his love of life, church, family and friends as well as his great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Gesu Church (W. Wisconsin Avenue at N. 12th St.) in Milwaukee on Friday, May 9 at 11AM with a private burial the following day in Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name would be appreciated to the Clement J. Zablocki V.A. Medical Center or the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, Wisconsin.
