James Arthur "Jim" McKinney Jim passed away at the age of 75 on November 25th, 2018, at his home in Olympia, WA. Jim was born September 10th, 1943 in Auburn, WA. Jim attended the North Thurston School District and graduated from North Thurston High School in 1962. Jim met the love of his life, Eileen in high school, when they were both sixteen. They married April 25th, 1964. After graduation, Jim joined GE Corporation and worked as an Appliance Service Technician for eight years. Much to the surprise of Eileen he decided they should open a business, with McKinney's Appliance opening in 1972, now serving the community for over 46 years. Son, Rob was born in 1967 and son, Scott joined the family in 1969. Jim was a kind and thoughtful man who always put his family and friends first. Among Jim's interests were attending family concerts and sporting events, fishing, gardening and most of all running his business. Jim was respected by so many in the community because he was so personable and caring. Through his years in business he developed many long-term friendships. Once you met Jim, he would always remember you and take a genuine interest in your life. He was a very humble man and always there to lend a hand. Jim left an amazing legacy giving to many charities, supporting the local schools and non-profit associations he was very dedicated to his community. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Arthur McKinney, and his brother Jess McKinney. Jim is survived by his wife, Eileen McKinney, son Rob McKinney and Rob's wife Kari, and son Scott McKinney, grandsons, Jordan, Brooks and Nolan and granddaughter Paige, and sister Darlene Gilbertson. A family funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 1st. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Boys & Girls Club of Thurston County. A celebration of Jim's wonderful life will be held after the first of the year.

Eileen, Rob, Scott and family,

We are very saddened to hear of Jim's passing.
The obituary was so accurate in describing Jim. He was a friend who I could occasionally stop and visit at McKinney's to catch up on life and local news. Jim has been my friend since early 1973 when I bought my first appliance from him. And, of course, your store is the only place we buy appliances. Words cannot describe the loss nor fill the void. But, please know that Jim has thousands of friends who are thinking and praying for all of you.
Our hearts are broken.

I met Jim back in the late 90's when I was teenager working my first job at Burger King. He was such a sweet man & really cared about you & what was going on. Sometimes I would take a break & sit & talk with him. Over the years I'd drop to say Hi at McKinney's. He never forgot who I was. My condolences to his family. This community has definitely lost one of the good ones! R.I.P. Now he is an angel watching over all of us.

I am very saddened to learn of Jim's passing. He was a very good friend of mine at North Thurston High School, and Eileen was a neighbor up the block from our home.

I always looked forward to our trips up to Washington State and dropping in to see Jim at the store. Janet and I pass along our condolences to Eileen and family. I know how much Jim will be missed and I wish I could attend his service.

I am going to miss Jim tremendously. He had a huge impact on my life. Not only was he the fairest employer I ever had, but he genuinely cared about his employees and their families. His family and his community were so important to him. He will leave a lasting impression on all that knew him. So sad. RIP Jim
