Melanie Starr Haven Dickie Buechel-Melanie Buechel Melanie Starr Haven Dickie BuechelMelanie Buechel, 66, of Shelton, WA passed away on May 10, 2018. She was born on August 21, 1951 in Tacoma, WA to Margaret Havens. She was raised by her maternal grandmother, Mary Dickie, and step-grandfather, Wesley Dickie in Shelton, WA. Mel graduated from Shelton High School in 1969 and attended Green River Community College and South Puget Sound Community College. Following that, she completed college at the University of Washington in Tacoma. In 1974 Mel married Kelly Buechel. Together they lived in Vancouver, WA and Soldatna, AK until 1980 when they divorced and Mel returned to Shelton, WA with their son Joshua. Mel was employed for 35 years in several different government divisions with the State of Washington. She was a phenomenal blues singer and sang with The Blues Torpedoes in the Olympia area for 13 years. They produced two CDs in that time. Melanie finally lost her courageous battle against cancer this spring. She was cremated according to her wishes and her ashes will be spread in Neah Bay, WA. She is survived by her beloved son, Joshua Shawn, her grandson, Skylar Reece, and her dearest friends: Elizebeth, Barbie, and Janet. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Prosperity Grange Hall at: 3701 Steamboat Loop NW, Olympia, WA 98502 in "Steamboat Island." It will be on September 16, 2018 from 12 noon until 7pm. All of Mel's bounty of family and friends are welcome to come celebrate Mel's life and memory.
