Patricia Bryan Layton Obituary
Patricia Bryan Layton Patricia Bryan Layton died at Providence St. Peter Hospital on July 22, 2018 from complications of a long-standing bone marrow disorder. She died peacefully with her family by her side. Patty was born on April 13, 1950 in Colville, WA to Don "Red" and Mildred "Pete" Bryan. Her primary and secondary education were completed in Colville and she graduated with a degree in nursing from the University of Washington. She subsequently completed her Masters of Nursing before working in neuro-oncology at the University of Michigan. She was devoted to her work and was quoted as saying that what keeps her going is "the warmth and appreciation patients show and knowing that [she's] helping them feel less alone." She married Mark Walter Layton on December 30, 1976, and in 1982 they moved to Ann Arbor, MI where he completed his residency and fellowship in rheumatology. Their three children Stephanie, Susanne, and Ross were born there, and soon after the family moved out to Olympia, WA to start the next chapter of their lives. Throughout the next three decades, Patty would become an active part of the Olympia community. She was deeply involved in her children's schools, theatres, and sports programs, and worked as director of City of Olympia Safe and Sober Driving. Patty had many passions which included tennis, gardening, volunteer work, and cooking, but her greatest legacy will be the knack she had for bringing people together and the joy it brought her. She also climbed Mt. Rainier twice and ran three marathons. Patty is survived by her husband Mark, her three children, Stephanie of Brooklyn, NY, Susanne of Brooklyn, NY, and Ross of Los Angeles, CA, and two brothers, John (Tori) Bryan of Edmond, OK and Mark (Susan) Bryan of Seattle. She also leaves behind an extensive network of cherished friends, for whom she was a fiercely loyal confidante. Patty exemplified loving and devoted parenting.
