SOMMERFELD, Brenda Anne February 25, 1958 – January 8, 2021 Brenda Anne Sommerfeld (Haight), age 62, passed away unexpectedly at St. Paul's Hospital on January 8, 2021. Brenda was born in Saskatoon on February 25, 1958 and was raised on the family dairy farm at Floral, SK. Life on the farm was never dull. Whether there were chores to do or mischief to be had, Brenda was a part of it all. Much time on the farm was spent with the Haight family cousins, who frequented often for family visits and the occasional bit of trouble! In her youth, Brenda was very active in 4-H. Numerous hours were spent in the barn, or at livestock shows showing cattle. Her efforts did not go unrewarded. She earned the achievements of 4-H Dairy Princess with the Saskatoon Dairy Club, and in 1976 she was crowned the "Hereford Queen" by the Saskatchewan Hereford Association. This achievement earned her a trip to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. In 1978, Brenda enrolled in the Certified Nursing Assistant program at the Kelsey Siast campus. This is where she met Brenda Benson, who became a lifelong friend. Brenda completed the nursing assistant program with a practicum at the Sanitorium in Saskatoon and earned her diploma in 1979. On August 18, 1979, Brenda married Gregory Sommerfeld. Brenda and Greg lived on the farm east of Saskatoon on Highway #5. In 1990, Brenda, Greg and family moved to the Outlook area, and lived in town for eight years before moving to the farm on Green Valley road, south of Broderick, in 1998. Brenda was known to be a fisherman and a storyteller - a perfect combination. She loved a freshly mowed lawn, and could often be found on the lawnmower, keeping the grass in her yard trim and neat. Brenda loved her grandchildren with all her heart. She spent lots of time with her granddaughters, Hayden and Emma, and the girls frequented Grandma's house by way of a quick trip down the canal road on the Gator. Whether it was bird watching, hitting golf balls from the front lawn, watching a ball game, giving a ride to the pool or shooting a nerf gun – Grandma Brenda was always there, ready to have a good time! In the fall of 1993, the "Clothes Club" group came together, and with that a special group of friends. Many laughs, lots of shenanigans and some tears have been shared with this group of ladies. They will likely remember Brenda for her smart, foul mouth and for her talent of hiding the hanging pictures off each of their walls from time to time. When we speak of friendships, a special mention must be made for the friendships with both Suzanne and Jade. Brenda met both of these ladies upon moving to Outlook, and from there many memories and stories have been made. Good times with these friends and their families have included birthday parties to the extreme, anniversary back-road farm tours, multiple trips to Grey Cup festivals and travelling to Mexico. Brenda was predeceased by her father, Murray Haight, in 2015 and her brother, Duane Haight, in 2016. Brenda is survived by her husband Greg, daughter Sarah (Ryan Grunerud), daughter Katie (Denis O'Connor), and son Jason (Cassandra), grandchildren Hayden (14) and Emma (10) Grunerud and Hartley (3) and Jacob (1) Sommerfeld, mother Marjorie Haight, brother Dale (Tracy) Haight, sisters-in-law Debbie Sommerfeld, Janice Sommerfeld and Barb Haight and brother-in-law Dan (Patti) Kemmer, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Notice for the service will be shared prior to taking place. For those wishing so, donations in memory of Brenda, can be directed to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation – Outlook Branch at PO Box 875 Outlook, SK S0L 2N0. Arrangements are entrusted to Outlook Funeral Chapel 306-867-8255. __________________________________________________
