I had the privilege and pleasure of learning much from Hilary whilst working in the health and disability sector. Hilary was generous in sharing her wisdom and empathy with others involved in this sector, and she has gifted an awesome legacy over many years of advocacy and teaching. My sincere condolences to Hilary's loved ones near and far. Gone, but not forgotten. May Hilary rest in peace knowing that she will also rest in many people's hearts forever.

Hilary was an amazing person. She remains in our memories and through her many achievements, including her writing, as an inspiration to keep going, in spite of the barriers others put in the way and our own doubts, working towards a better world and a better Aotearoa, as she always did.
Hilary was kind, honest and personally non-judgmental (politics was another matter, but she did didn´t dwell on judgments, just worked harder to improve things). When I think of Hilary, I think of Jacinda, who, I´d guess, was the leader she admired above all.
Of course, we also think of Serena and Oscar, who, almost single-handedly, she raised to be admirable human beings. For a time, Hilary was our sister-in-law, married to my youngest brother, Max, who she cared for before he died from cancer in 1989. I have continued to regard her as family and will very much miss her. Unfortunately, Jan and I now live in Australia and health issues will prevent us from being present to share our love for Hilary with others at her memorial service.
