LAWRENCE O'CONNOR Obituary
He had recently moved from his home in Hawk Run to the new Centre Crest Rehabilitation and Care facility in Bellefonte.
Although born in Manhattan, he later became a country boy who embraced both hunting and fishing as a life-long member of the Swamp Poodle Hunting Camp in Renovo, and belonged to most of the local sportsman and social clubs. For many years he could be heard on the local Philipsburg radio station playing and singing Irish tunes on St. Patrick's Day.
He was the father of 11 children - seven daughters and four sons, who gave him 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Children include Trish Yontosh and her son; Gail Lawrence, husband Michael, two daughters and their five children; Sandra Liptak, her two children and their four children; Lawrence "Butch" O'Connor; Linda O'Connor; Tammy Taylor and husband Jim, and their three sons; Chuck O'Connor (deceased), his two children and their two children; Scott O'Connor (deceased); Rob O'Connor, wife Beverly and two daughters; Michele Meeker, husband Lee, two children and their two children; Jennifer Bumbarger, husband Paul and their son.
A second marriage gave him four stepchildren who include Peggy Harrington, husband Doug, daughter Amanda and her son.
He was the big brother of four sisters, Francis Nicholson (deceased), Rose Weich, Pat Baronak, and Betty Myers, who gave him 11 nieces and nephews and their children.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Strange and Weaver Funeral Home in Morrisdale. Masks and social distancing will be required.
A private service will be held at a later date for family. Since he coached Allport Little League for ten years, the family asks that donations be made in his name to Kelly Williamson, c/o Allport Little League, P.O. Box 48, Hawk Run, PA 16840; or send donations to Miracle League of Blair County, P.O. Box 1091, Altoona, PA 16603.
Larry will remain in the love and memories of his family and friends. He would want us to remember that, "If you're lucky enough to be Irish, you're lucky enough!"
