1945 - 2021

John Mitchell passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Jane Mitchell for 46 years. Loved by daughters Gwyneth Mitchell (Charlie) and Bronwyn Lewis (Mark). Beloved Pa of Robert Lewis and Mary Lewis. Predeceased by his mother, Martha Muriel Mitchell and father, William John Mitchell. John was born in Cardiff, Wales, UK and immigrated to Canada at the age of 7. He grew up in St. Catharines and graduated from Brock University with a Bachelor of Science. John enjoyed several summers as a park naturalist who catalogued many fossils and plants. He obtained a Bachelor of Education. John worked in the library at Wilfrid Laurier University for over 30 years and was a friendly face at the front desk. John was a tremendous support to his wife, Jane Mitchell, when she pursued her career as a municipal politician. Not only was he the bedrock of her campaigns, but he was also her unofficial executive assistant, well remembered by many constituents and regional staff for their conversations. John enjoyed his hobbies of photography, snorkeling and genealogy. He managed to find over 6000 ancestors and relatives. Most of all, John loved his dogs, Knave 1, Knave 2 and Amber. He enjoyed walking them around the neighbourhood and chatting with the neighbours. He is sorely missed in Lakeshore.
