URQUHART, Laura It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wonderful sister, mother, partner, auntie and friend, Laura Urquhart. She died peacefully on the morning of Saturday, September 28, 2019 in the hospice in Comox, BC. She is survived by her daughter Liz, and her son-in-law, Matt, her partner, Alan Hodge, and her siblings, John, James, Scott, Cam, Tim and Carolyn, their partners, all her nieces and nephews, extended family and many, many friends. Laura will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. She was special to everyone who knew her. Not only was she an incredible artist, having been named one of the best portrait artists in North America, but she was also a loving, caring nurse for many years, specializing in palliative care for the last half of her career. The memory of her is a masterpiece that she painted on our hearts. Please email: any happy memories, thoughts, words, pictures or condolences.

I knew Laura and most of her immediate family in Kitchener, Ontario through 1970 and 1980 s. My youngest daughter went to school with Carolyn and I took life painting classes in Watercolour from Laura and socialized with her in various art group.
I remember an afternoon when Carolyn and my daughter were baby sitting Liz and left her with me while they went off together.
I moved to Comox in 2006 and had no idea Laura was close by!
