Patricia WAGNER Obituary

WAGNER, Patricia Colleen (n? Gardiner) It is with great sadness the family of Patricia (Pat) Colleen Wagner announces her passing at Scarborough Grace Hospital in Toronto, on May 10, 2018 at the age of 88. Pat succumbed to complications from her advanced Alzheimer's. Pat is predeceased by her husband Michael (Mike) Wagner, her parents Mabel and Pat Gardiner and her sister Maureen Folliott. Pat is survived by her two sons Peter and his wife Jayne and their daughters Erika and Laura; Tony and his wife Susan and their two children Ryan and Amanda; her brother-in-law Don Folliott and nephew Chris Folliott. Pat was born in Preston on February 9, 1930 and always felt at home with her roots in the Cambridge area. Pat took great pride supporting and caregiving for her mother's eight spinster sisters living in Preston - so many fond memories and laughs with them. Pat's focus in life was being a loving mother to Peter and Tony and a dedicated and supporting wife to Mike, who served seven years on City of Kitchener and Waterloo Regional Councils and its many committees where he was a strong advocate for heritage, culture and the arts. Pat shared Mike's passions particularly for researching and protecting heritage buildings and over many years was involved with the North Waterloo Branch of the Architectural Conservancy, Waterloo Regional Heritage Foundation, Waterloo Historical Society, Heritage Kitchener, Regional Heritage Planning Advisory Committee, Friends of Joseph Schneider Haus, Doon Heritage Crossroads, Friends of the Governor's House and Gaol, Doors Open Waterloo Region and the Kitchener Public Library Foundation. For Pat's contributions, Pat was a recipient of the 2009 Ontario Senior of the Year Award for Waterloo region and the 2012 Lieutenant Governor's Ontario Heritage Award for Lifetime Achievement. Most recently on March 19, 2018, Kitchener Council approved that the Mike Wagner Heritage Award, forming part of the Kitchener Great Places Awards, be re-named to the Mike & Pat Wagner Heritage Award. Pat and Mike took many trips together - Ireland, Florida and Arizona were their favourites. They were avid theater goer's at the Royal Alex, Centre on the Square and Stratford. Pat had a love of curling, playing in the afternoon women's league at the K-W Granite, organizing major curling events with Mike, attending curling events across the country and watching them on television. For herself, Pat loved gardening, baking and cooking, chitchats with neighbors and friends and was a voracious reader of books and newspapers. Pat also had a passion investigating both sides of the family ancestry and her search to uncover her father's orphan upbringing in Ireland and immigration to Galt. Pat was a devoted grandmother and cherished researching cool places to take them, such as to country corn mazes they spent hours roaming through and her kitchen cookie jar was legendary full of her baked treats especially for them. The family sincerely thanks the staff and caregivers at Revera's Rayoak Place in North York who helped Pat feel safe, happy and healthy over the past 3 years. A private family funeral took place on May 16, 2018 at Williamsburg Cemetery in Kitchener. Donations in memory of Pat can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada at alzheimer.ca or donate by telephone at 1-800-616-8816. In memory of Pat an Old Irish Blessing: May love and laughter light your days, and warm your heart and home. May good and faithful friends be yours, wherever you may roam. May peace and plenty bless your world, with joy that long endures. May all life's passing seasons bring the best to you and yours.
