John PLAYFORD Obituary

John David Playford, son of the late Jack and Molly Playford, passed away suddenly on March 10, 2021, at the age of 67. He is survived by his sister Penny (David) and brother James (Trudie), his nephews Chris, Jeff and Michael, his niece Lisa, and extended family. Known as John to his colleagues, he worked for many years selling appliances at Sears in Kitchener. He volunteered with the Big Brothers Association, Meals on Wheels and the Food Bank. David was very fond of his feline companions, and supported the K-W Humane Society. To his friends and family, he was David, or "Roll". In pre-covid times, he enjoyed gatherings, the bigger the better, and would regularly bring treats from his favourite eatery, "Timmie's". David loved music and dancing, and would drive to Casino Rama, just to see a band he liked. He even went on a rock and roll music themed cruise. More recently, he attended many shows at the Centre in the Square. His other love was sports. In his younger years he was a bowler, then became a golfer. He was involved in a darts league. As a spectator, he watched football, hockey and baseball, but hockey was his favourite. David was an ardent, life-long Leafs fan, and took great delight in their success this season. Though David didn't have the opportunity for travel in the past few years, he had always enjoyed going to visit his parents at La Playa on Longboat Key in Florida. In Waterloo, he had a special place in his heart for Sunfish Lake, where his grandmother once lived. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, pending current covid restrictions. I am sad to say farewell to my friend Roll! We had many good times in our youth- time well spent playing cards, listening to music, and enjoying our fellow 'Fizz Kids'
My heartfelt condolences to the family. Sending hugs and warm wishes.

Where do I even start? I lived next door to David and am only five months younger. We hit it off right away as kids.
•Playing road hockey at the top of Murdock Cres. for hours on end, or Tippy on the big grass boulevard.
•Talking hockey and the Leafs in his basement while going through our trading cards and Sherriff coins.
•Learning to skate and play hockey on my backyard rink which my Dad made almost every year. That’s me in between David and Jamie (as he was known back then).
•Taking swimming lessons at the Kitchener Y which neither of us liked. His Mom and my Mom would alternate driving us – Molly in her little green Vauxhall.
•I was even invited to the cottage at Sunfish Lake a couple times – beautiful spot – loved his Grandma.
•We moved away at about age 12, but many years later while looking for a new stove, we went to Sears and there he was! I couldn’t bring myself to calling him John, which was on his name tag – I always knew him as David.
You’ll be missed, my friend.

Rollie was my dance partner at many Bubba Dome Events. We also enjoyed going to the Centre In The Square. Music was a large part of both our lives. Rest In Peace My Friend, Rest In Peace :(

I am deeply saddened to learn of David's passing. We grew up together on Murdock Crescent, Waterloo, and he attended my mother's memorial a few years ago. What an amazing man he was. So thoughtful and incredibly kind to everyone he knew. As a child I remember him as being the nicest guy in the neighborhood. We had fun over the years taking mail to each others homes. My maiden name is Playford, and often our families mail would end up and each others homes. David and I seemed to be the two family members who walked the mail back to the correct Playford household. We laughed about it just a few years ago at mom's memorial. Please accept my husband Ken and my deepest condolences to the family. Such a sad loss.
