WILLIAM COOK Obituary

WILLIAM (BILL) PATTERSON COOK October 20th, 1933 â€" August 7th, 2025 William "Bill" Cook â€" known to many as "Cookie" â€" passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on October 20th, 1933, in Northern Ireland, Bill's formative years in a working-class Belfast neighbourhood shaped a life defined by resilience, discipline, and drive. He found early purpose in sport, eventually discovering a lifelong passion for bodybuilding and physical excellence. His dedication paid off: Bill earned the title of Mr. Northern Ireland, placed as runner-up in the 1959 Mr. Britain competition, and received the Most Muscular Man award at an international bodybuilding event in Canada. It was that same passion for fitness that first brought him to Bermuda, where he worked as a physical education instructor at Westgate Correctional Facility. There, he inspired inmates to strive toward self-improvement through physical discipline and personal effort. Though he considered returning to Northern Ireland, Bermuda â€" and the community he built here â€" became his true home. Bill went on to found the Bermuda Hotel Supply Company, a thriving business that supported a full and adventurous life. He embraced the island's beauty and camaraderie, becoming an avid golfer, sailor, skier, squash and tennis player. He travelled widely, always chasing new experiences with the same energy he brought to his work and friendships. Known for his quick wit and dry humour, Bill was a spirited observer of local affairs and a frequent voice on Bermudian talk radio. He never hesitated to share his opinions â€" always delivered with conviction and a wry smile. To those who knew him best, Bill was above all a generous and loyal friend. He had an appreciation for the finer things in life, his favourites being oysters and a glass of Cru Champagne, however Bill never forgot his humble beginnings. He was always happiest when sharing with others. Having achieved personal success in life, he chose to give back even in his death, arranging for a generous part of his estate to support causes he cared deeply about. Bill lived with passion, independence, and integrity. He enriched the lives of those around him and will be deeply missed by all those who knew him in Bermuda and overseas. In accordance with his wishes, a private memorial will be held at a later date. Bulley-Graham-Rawlins Funeral Home & Cremation Services www.bulley-graham.bm

So sorry to hear of Bill's passing.
He was such an interesting well travelled man with many stories to tell. His prowess in the fitness world from many decades ago is legendary. A man of many talents probably unknown to most! Acollector of art and always generous with his time to meet up and chat. A real loss to friends family and those he influenced in so many ways.

Bill,
It´s been a blast having you in our lives for the last 9 years.
Yours is the epitome of a life lived to its absolute fullest and an inspiration to your Son and 3 Grandsons. You were kind, generous and full of sage advice.
Circumstances kept us apart for most of our lives but it was definitely a case of better late than never when we were finally reunited.
I, along with many others, will miss your Irish charm and blarney.

RIP

Eddie ( Shaun Patrick )

I first met Bill over sixty years ago when he was in the prison service living in the East end. We used to play volley ball on elbow and "have a few scoops" (one of Bill's) in the staff bar upstairs.
We took in the 1972 Olympics in Munich and The Rio De Janeiro Carnival in 1979.AS others noted he was interested in worldly affairs and a great conversationalist. His dry sense of humor and classic one liners defined Bill. I could relay stories, but not here!
And so "Casey" (1 of my nick names) I'll remember you for your years of friendship and say God speed as you rest above.

I have known Bill for over 60 years.
We seldom met in person but kept in touch especially when the internet occurred.

Wise, patient, and humble.

He lived a full life and helped so many.
Rest easy Bill.

Sadly the end of a sixty year friendship but I´m left with many memories of good times shared from Wimbledon to Africa and places beyond. Our long talks on every topic will be remembered and shared as I pass on your advice to others. Until we meet again, save me a place!
